The Patchwork Scripture

The objective of this endeavor is to create a body of written knowledge from as many different authors, perspectives and beliefs as can feasibly attracted to it. This work would be the opposite of traditional scripture in the sense that it is the word of mere mortals rather than The Divine, is inclusive and applicable to all people rather than exclusive and written solely for the faithful, is relatively undiluted by religious trappings, and is changing and self-correcting as society evolves and grows rather than being dogmatic and written in stone.

This project relies on the submission of work from any and all individuals who would like to contribute. The project is set up similar to many religious tomes; many "books" to make the project a whole. The books are currently set up as follows:

  • Genesis, the book of beginnings - From cosmology and evolution through creation, intelligent design and other origin beliefs
  • Paths, a book of beliefs - A summary of beliefs and history, one per chapter
  • Ethema, a book of cultures - A synopsis of the people that make the world go round.
  • Idios, the book of oneself
  • Agape and Eros, the book of personal relationships - From friends through lovers and marriage
  • Kith and Kin, the book of family relationships - From the nuclear to the estranged
  • Diversity, the book of tolerance and respect
  • Gaia, the book of the living world - Thoughts on how we live in this world, and how we are politically, financially, environmentally, and the good and the bad.
  • Et Cetera, the book of everything else - imponderables and things that don't fit elsewhere
  • Prophecies, the book of the future

Making a submission

The Patchwork Scripture submission process involves submission to a panel of moderators. The panel of moderators represent a broad section of religious and spiritual beliefs. Before making a submission, please familiarize yourself with the short list of rules:

  • DO NOT plagiarize or submit copyrighted material! You may only submit copyrighted material if you are the copyright owner. If you know of some copyrighted material that you think would be an excellent submission, by all means, please contact this person and tell them about our project! We take copyright seriously, and the submission of copyrighted material that is not yours may be considered a banning offense. This is our only iron-clad rule
  • Don’t submit exclusivist propaganda for your faith. You may believe that yours is The One True Way and that all who do not follow that path are doomed, but submissions to this effect will only earn you a rejection slip.
  • Avoid insults and attacks on others in your work. This is about making your message look good and if you can’t do that without running somebody else down then you should probably rethink that message.
  • Please look through the project and the discussion boards to help get ideas and prevent redundant submissions.
  • Submissions may take any form of prose, poetry and parable you feel comfortable with. Essay format is not necessarily the most effective means to convey a given message.
  • You may want to run your submission through a spell checker first. It will most likely speed up the submission process.

When you are ready to make a submission, there is one of two ways to do so. You may email your submission to Or, if you have an account to our forum you may submit your work there. Currently, all submissions when approved can be viewed in our forum.  Check out our forum at http://www.divinediscussions.com/phpBB3

Please let us know if you have any questions, and looking forward to your submission!
