Evolution is not religion, merely dogma. Science however is, in many ways, a religion.

They have 'preists' who where nice white vestments, and happliy tell anyone who will listen the best way to do absoluting everything. They preach the gospel according to Scientific Method and proudly declare the 'truth' from high atop the ivory tower of technology. In good Orwellian fashion the faithful masses are trained to turn a blind eye to the constant revisions to the 'facts'. In the tradition of the church of Rome, the masses are left uneducated to the meanings of the 'sermons' and technobabble has replaced latin as the language of the educated elite. The Catholichs have proof too, the shroud of turin, relics of various saints, and the occational modern miracle.

b.t.w. I am a science major (well, one of my majors is a science, as is my minor) and have never been a Catholic.
